I appreciate your post, and I'm so glad to read that update from Rev. Shishko in your defense. I would like to correct an error in your post, which states that James Andruss is currently an elder at Grace OPC (Costa Mesa, CA). The church website is obsolete; the man died last year. https://www.rosehills.com/obituaries/whittier-ca/james-andruss-11567850

I was nearly excommunicated from New Covenant Community Church, an OPC in Joliet, Illinois for privately confronting the session (leadership) over their abysmal care of abused women in the congregation.

For months, they terrorized me and insisted I "repent" for having criticized them in such a way. My family and I who had been there 18 years and who had faithfully served and loved the people there had to flee from this church.

Disgusting and abhorrent

One person is dead and is unable to speak for themselves. Makes the entire issue suspect unfortunately.

This is fantastic coverage of a serious and under-covered topic. The effects of abuse at the hands of faith leaders are so long lasting. The willingness of too many to turn the other cheek to it is just as damaging.

The victim in the link below (please pray for her and share the link if you’re willing) was first the victim of violence by our Presbyterian pastor when we were young. The matter was treated as something a “good Christian” should just forgive and forget.

I’m certain that attitude led to her willingness to tolerate and accept abuse for so long in her marriage. That and believing that you stick with and save a marriage no matter what.

Now, her life is in shambles and she has serious health problems as she’s trying to work through all of the abuse in her life.

Thank you. This needs to be exposed and denounced everywhere.

There isn't really a book explaining explicitly how to cover up child abuse, but the theory of cover up is taught in "Competent to Counsel" by Jay Adams.

What you describe is the culture that the Nouthetic Counseling system created, where evil men prosper

I am now pondering writing a book about these patterns and titling it The Book of Church Disorder. Lol.
