All That Was Lost Shall Be Found in Time

Happy news in the case of a missing University of Houston student who disappeared with his dog.

Details are sparse and I don’t know what happened, but all that matters is that Sujay has been found and he is now safe.

Around 1:30 PM this afternoon I received a hurried text from his father asking me to retract the press release without any explanation. My heart dropped, fearing the absolute worst. A few hours later though, I received a call letting me know that Sujay is alive, and he is safe. Thank God!

I am sincerely grateful to every one of you who prayed and shared the missing person release. I don’t know what lead to Sujay’s recovery, or what struggles and sorrows he and his family must currently be facing, but he is alive, and he is safe. And it’s possible that tips from alert people like you helped make that happen.

Often, in the cases I’m involved in, I never hear the ending. There are children forever traumatized, or in dangerous home situations, and all I can do is report crime, offer my best advice to the safe parent, and pray, pray, pray. There are women who tell me horrific stories of domestic violence, so I help them report, I connect them with resources, and I never hear back. And that’s OK. They need to move on with their lives. But it’s hard not knowing whether they’re safe.

As a police detective recently told me, it takes an incredible amount of time, effort, and emotional energy to advocate for victims of crime, and sometimes it feels as if it may never pay off.

But today it did. Today, we cherish this blessing.

And so, we breathe a sigh of relief and hug our kids a little tighter, all the while praying for Sujay and his loved ones. We pray that God would heal the trauma caused by this terrible experience and comfort them with an overwhelming sense of His presence.
